Feed: Seeds
Most of the backyard songbirds will eat bird seed. Black oil sunflower seed is probably the most popular seed enjoyed by these birds. Good quality mixes that contain no fillers (avoid seed mixes containing milo) are especially popular in wooden or platform feeders. If you are looking for no mess, no waste birdfeed, try Lyric Delite or hulless sunflower chips. Experiment with different varieties of seed and use the mixes that work best for you. Troubled by squirrels and blackbirds? Then try using safflower seed. Most of the songbirds will eat safflower, but squirrels, grackles and starlings do not like this seed.
